How does K8 KidTunes work?

Your parent or guardian sets up a K8 KidTunes online allowance for you. You can then buy and download whatever K8 KidTunes songs you want, and listen to them on your computer, burn your own CD, or play them on your iPod. You can buy as many songs as you like, as long as you have money in your account.

Remember, this is one time when sharing is NOT a good thing. Songs you buy are JUST for you. If you want your friend to have a song, you can buy it for them (but check with your parent(s) first). You may not post these songs on any web site.

Where are the songs?

Click on K8 KidTunes to see all the different ways you can find songs, visit the Song Categories page to find your favorite kind of music, or go to the A-Z Listing page to see an alphabetical list of all of the songs that you can download. Links on the top and bottom of every page help you find the music, too.

If you want, you can listen to sound clips of the songs BEFORE you download anything. You'll need either Flash Player or QuickTime. You can download them for free, if you don't already have them, but get your parents' permission first.

Need Flash Player? It's a free download.

Need QuickTime? It's a free download.

(QuickTime for Mac OS9 and earlier is available here.)

How much are the songs?

Each song is just 99¢ (plus tax if you live in Wisconsin).

I'm new and need an allowance!

Ask your parent(s) if they will give you a K8 KidTunes allowance. If they agree, have them click on Open An Account to set up your allowance. You and your parent(s) will decide on a Username and Password together. Pick something easy to remember, but NEVER use your own name or any other information about yourself. Be sure your parents keep a copy of your Username and Password in a safe place, and help them choose a "Clue" that will make it easy to remember your Password.

Your parent(s) will fill in the rest of the allowance information.

How do I find and download songs?

You don't need to be logged in to listen to music clips, but you do need to be logged in to buy and download the K8 KidTunes. What's easiest?

  1. Listen to the K8 KidTunes music clips.
  2. Find the ones you like and put them in your Music Basket by clicking the "Add To Basket" button.
  3. Click on "Download Your Songs," which asks you to log in (if you aren't logged in yet).
  4. Enter your Username and Password. Once you are logged in, you'll go right to the page with your downloads.
  5. Save your songs to your computer. Here's how:
    1. Right-Click on the link and choose "Download Link To Disk," "Save Target As," or "Save Link Target As" (depending on your browser). If your mouse only has one button, click and hold down until the necessary menu pops up. If you're using a Mac, you can also hold down the Control key and click to bring up the menu.
    2. Select a location on your computer and save the file. Note that the MP3 files are quite large and may take a long time to download, especially with a slow connection.
Further download instructions.

You'll find instructions on the download page, as well, in case you need help.

For further download instructions, click here.

When you download your songs, you will get a reminder that shows how much allowance you spent and how much allowance you have left.

Trouble downloading

If you have trouble downloading the file - for example, your computer crashes and you can't get back to the download page - talk to your parents. They will get an e-mail with a link to a page that will let you download your files.

My allowance is almost gone!

Let your parent(s) know that your allowance is running low. Once they add more money to it, you can download more songs.

I forgot my password or username

If you forget your password, there is a hint feature available on every log in screen. Simply enter your username, check the box (see below), and hit the log in button.

If that still doesn't help, go to the Password Reminder page, where you can find your password with your username and the account holder's last name and zip code. After entering the correct information, an e-mail with your password will be sent to the account holder.

If you have forgotten your username, use the Password Reminder page to get it. Please note that you need your password and the account holder's last name and zip-code to retrieve your missing log in information. If you have forgotten both your username and password, you must contact us.
